November / December 2012 Afterschool Art Program

The Creative Child and Adult Arts Program

This is a four week program designed to get artists thinking about colors (hot, cold, primary, secondary) and how they give depth and feelings to all artworks.  Artists will also learn (review) the five line families and what makes a strong overall composition.

Projects that reflect these strengths will be offered each week to allow artists creative choices and experimentation with materials but to also reinforce these understandings.

Schedule of Classes (subject to shift based on interests of artists)

Week one: Hot and cool color collage using a variety of materials including markers, specialty papers, foam, doo dads, glitter and anything else we can think of. Side by side comparison of color families mounted on black paper.

Week two: Understanding Line families/Mylar overlay

This will build upon the first weeks’ work allowing artists to create an abstract or realistic image on a watercolor sheet. Upon that will be attached a sturdy sheet of mylar (semi-transparent) which will allow another layer of colors (opposite to the base sheet) to be added. Giving a great depth to the artwork and again reinforcing the understandings of colors and their emotional powers.

Week three:  Eric Hopkins as the inspiration will be this week’s projects.  As a Maine artist, Eric creates colorful landscapes/seascapes of Maine by breaking things down into shapes easily understood using watercolors and oil pastels as his medium.  This project always has the most amazing results and is a favorite of all my artists.

Week four:  I will leave this week open to reflect the interests of the group and decide on a project as we move through our program.

Please note: This is a four week program and artists will get the most out of this instruction if they attend all weeks.

Dates: November 14, 28th and December 5th, 12th

Time: 4:00 to 5:15

Cost: $15.00 per week – bring a friend and pay only $12.00
